Living in Greenacres Near Spokane WA

Greenacres, though it retains a post office and has two schools named after it, is not a city. When looking at home listings or a map if you are not from the Spokane area you might think  Greenacres is a stand-alone city. Greenacres is actually an undesignated area originally developed as farmland to grow fruit crops in the early 1900s. Since then it has seen significant changes with the building of residential housing. It is mostly governed by the city of Spokane Valley, though a few small portions lie outside the city of Spokane Valley's official boundaries. These extra portions are in unincorporated Spokane County. Another small portion is located within the boundaries of Liberty Lake.

Greenacres continues to grow in desirability for its newer housing, especially for the homes located along Barker Road and E Saltese/E 32nd, as the neighboring city of Liberty Lake becomes more desirable to live in. Greenacres is the area of Spokane Valley in the southeast portion neighboring Liberty Lake.

Greenacres Highlights

  • Location: located just outside the city of Liberty Lake a rapidly growing small town in "the Valley" and only minutes from everything in Spokane Valley. Greenacres is also 30 minutes from downtown Spokane.
  • Newer Homes: many new construction homes have been built in this area of Spokane Valley in the last decade
  • Education: Young families search for Greenacres homes for the neighborhoods that offer close proximity to other young families creating an atmosphere of community with school friends and to be within the boundaries of schools with the Greenacres name
  • Quiet: Though the main road through Greenacres which is Sprague/Appleway does see high car volume, and Barker can get congested at traditional rush hour traffic times, Greenacres offers a relatively quiet suburban feel that many enjoy.
  • Local Shops and Dining: Greenacres began as a tiny farming community with a shopping center on Appleway to anchor the community. Today Appleway/Sprague is the largest road in Spokane Valley and a major hub of commercial activity. One of the most beloved local restaurants in the Valley is located on this road in the Greenacres area, The Stupid Cow.
